004 - Paul Kalkbrenner (Berlin Calling OST)

There are so many decent tracks on this album - it's not short either, at 80 minutes. Like Gui Boratto's first album Chromophobia, this too knows how to slide between mellow and intense, bedroom and dancefloor. My favourite part of the first track is the hi-hat, which shuffles along nicely and is complemented by the clicks. The whole thing just has a really nice, smooth vibe to it. The second track, however, is neither nice nor smooth. What it is, instead, is straight-up, pounding techno that relies on subtle changes in its dynamics and - of course - repetition. Finally, I just couldn't resist putting the third on.

Paul Kalkbrenner - Azure

Paul Kalkbrenner - Torted

Paul Kalkbrenner - Atzepeng
